Why Research is necessary
There is a shortage of research internationally on how disability is included in rofessional training curricula. The emerging studies in South Africa such as two recently conducted at The University of Cape Town (UCT) show that disability is at early stages of being included in the undergraduate in the University of Cape Town (UCT) curriculum. Another very recent UCT based study investigated the inclusion of disability issues into the curriculum of the Engineering Faculty at UCT. Despite this evidence there is still minimal published knowledge about how disability is included in the medical curriculum. This study intends to begin the process of investigation that will inform how disability could be included in a South African medical undergraduate curriculum.
